
Simone Mantia (1873-1951)
He was born in Italy and came to America as a young child. In 1898, he joined Sousa’s Band replacing his former teacher. In 1904, he left Sousa and joined Pryor’s newly formed band. He was the soloist and assistant conductor of Pryor’s Band. At 67, he played solos at the New York’s World Fair in 1940. (Bridges)
