John Hazel

John Hazel (1865-1948)

John Hazel was one of the most technically proficient cornetists of his generation.  Hazel played solos all over the United States.  In 1888, Hazel befriended W. F. Cody, wrote a march dedicated to Hon. W.F. Cody (Buffalo Bill) named “Col. Cody’s March”. In 1903, Hazel was employed as staff cornetist at the Edison Phonograph Studios.  He played in all their band and orchestra recordings. In later life, he was a member and conductor of the Repaz Band of Pennsylvania.
