(1875-1942)
John Dolan ranks with the finest cornetists of all time. He was cornet soloist with the Sousa Band from 1920 to 1928. Dolan got into an argument with Sousa and left the band. Dolan was very egotistical and hard to talk to. (Interview with Leonard B. Smith). Dolan had an active 3 octave range and a very facile tongue in single, double, and triple tonguing. He had the longest tenure with the Sousa Band after Herbert L. Clarke. (Bridges). After he left Sousa, Dolan was a prominent theater musician in the New York area. (Bierley)
